How the per-day denominator is computed

Most tools average capacity across a week and quietly overstate it. Assemble computes availability day by day, accounting for the things that actually shrink a working day.

    Find the working days

    Take the days between a task's start and due date. Weekends off, public holidays and approved leave are removed up front, so only real working days remain.

    Spread the hours

    The task's estimated hours are distributed across those working days. A half-day holiday counts as half a day of availability, not a full one.

    Respect the shift

    Each day's available hours follow the person's actual shift length. A six-hour shift does not get planned as if it were eight.

    Flag over-allocation

    When the hours planned onto a day exceed what that day can hold, the day is flagged red so you can rebalance before it becomes a missed date.

A worked example

A task estimated at 16 hours runs Monday to Friday. There is a public holiday on Wednesday and the assignee has a half-day of approved leave on Friday. That leaves Monday, Tuesday and Thursday as full days, and Friday as a half day — three and a half working days. The 16 hours spread across them, and any day pushed past its shift length is flagged. The week is never reported as five full days when it was not.

The attendance denominator

Attendance uses the same honesty. Pre-join days, public and half-day holidays, and approved PTO are excluded from the denominator. The percentage you report is the percentage that actually happened — not days present over a flat calendar month.
